32BJ Health Fund Partners & Programs
Centers of Excellence (COE) for Surgery
In 2025, the 32BJ Health Fund partnered with Lantern Surgery Care, a nationwide network of world-class surgical specialists, to offer an expanded and enhanced 32BJ Health Fund Centers of Excellence (COE) for Surgery. The Health Fund selected Lantern because of their rigorous vetting process and the expertise and experience of each surgeon, all of whom are board certified and fellowship trained. Members also receive navigation support throughout their care journey.
Through Lantern Surgery Care, 32BJ Health Fund participants may receive hundreds of types of surgeries and related care—at no cost to them. The benefit design includes two broad categories: 1) specific procedures that are mandatory under the program and must be performed by a Lantern surgeon to be covered, and 2) a wide array of procedures that participants may choose to have with Lantern. Additionally, the Health Fund supplemented its existing in-person physical therapy (PT) benefit with the option of unlimited $0 copay virtual PT through Lantern’s partner Hinge Health.
5 Star Primary Care
The 32BJ 5 Star Center Program offers the convenience of primary and specialty medical care all in one location. The Health Fund has numerous 5 Star Centers located in several states, and with its newly renovated, state-of-the-art facility and wide range of services, the Union Health Center in Manhattan is the Health Fund’s flagship 5 Star Center.
Fertility Care
In 2024, the Health Fund introduced an inclusive fertility benefit in collaboration with Progyny, a leader in smart, affordable fertility treatment. Progyny’s nationwide network of fertility specialists use the latest technologies and treatments to achieve pregnancy, and their success rate is excellent. The benefit design is based on the Progyny Smart Cycle, which covers all of the individual services, tests, and treatments a patient may need. If the first Smart Cycle treatment is not successful, patients may choose to use a second Smart Cycle.
Maternity Care
The Health Fund created the 32BJ Maternity Program to help reduce medical risks faced by expectant people and their babies in the New York City metropolitan area by partnering with seven New York and New Jersey hospitals. In fact, every year, 50,000 child-bearing individuals in the United States are harmed giving birth, and those in New York State and New Jersey, particularly people of color, have more maternity-related health complications than the national average. The hospitals and providers selected were required to meet rigorous standards for delivering excellent maternity care and the best maternity experience and must report certain results to the Fund (e.g., number of births, deliveries with complications, episiotomy rates, babies requiring intensive care) to prove they continue to meet quality standards.
Oula
Because many child-bearing individuals are looking for additional options for maternal care, the Health Fund partnered with Oula, a modern midwifery practice with locations in Brooklyn and downtown Manhattan and digital access to resources and providers. Oula’s midwives deliver all babies at Mount Sinai West Hospital, a Level III Perinatal Center equipped to handle high-risk and more complex maternal and fetal conditions.
Gender Affirmation Care
The Health Fund is proud to offer a Gender Affirmation Program, comprising comprehensive health services, including primary care, hormone therapy, surgical care, gynecology, urology, social work, and mental health counseling and support groups. The Mount Sinai Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery takes a multidisciplinary team approach to caring for trans and gender nonconforming people by developing a customized plan that serves each patient’s personal goals. Participants pay their regular in-network copays for the care they receive.
Cancer Care
Through its partnership with Memorial Sloan Kettering, the Health Fund offers participants access to MSK Direct, a free, concierge-style program for those who have received a cancer diagnosis, those who may be looking for a second opinion, and those who have questions about cancer treatment and care.
MSK Direct’s Care Advisors are available to 32BJ Health Fund participants via a dedicated toll-free telephone number. MSK Direct also provides online cancer care resources in English and Spanish.
